Haircuts and Professional Counseling
Jan 09, 2025Do you want to know who cut this miniature horse’s hair? Me!!! It’s hard to tell, but I have never been to beauty school. Also NEVER trust me to cut your bangs okay!!! That's Tator Tot and his mom's name is Sweet Tator. You might not want to trust me to come up with horses' names either!
You should know that when everything was shut down in 2020, I took it upon myself to cut my boys’ hair as well. My husband, who cares very little about appearance and fashion, literally took my haircutting privileges away. It was that bad!!
Here’s what we can all learn from my haircut fiascos…Trust the professionals! The professionals I’m most familiar with are professional counselors since I happen to be one. I sometimes hear people say things like why do I need a counselor when I have friends, or chocolate or fill in the blanket. No shade to your friends or chocolate, but have they been trained to help you walk through your traumatic past in a way that promotes healing? Do they know that a lot of your unwanted behavior is you trying to get a need met in an unhealthy way? Do they have solutions that are actually effective and proven to help you with your problems? Can they sit with you in uncomfortable emotions, and help you find your way out?
So, let’s agree: just like you wouldn’t want me to cut your bangs (or your horse’s hair for that matter), there are some things in life best left to the professionals. Counselors are trained to guide you through life’s messiest moments, offer clarity when everything feels tangled, and help you heal in ways that stick.
So, if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying a weight too heavy to bear on your own, it might be time to trust the professionals. You don’t have to figure it all out alone—Healing Hearts Counseling is here to help, no scissors required! :)
And remember, it’s okay to ask for help.
